Mi capita sempre più spesso di uscire dai negozi di dischi a mani vuote. Per poi sentirmi un po’ come un taccheggiatore al contrario, con le mani in tasca, le buste dello shopping vuote ed il desiderio di allontanarmi il prima possible dal luogo del non-delitto. Mi sa che è pure un po’ come fare cilecca. Tutta quell’aspettativa e alla fine niente.
Ma proprio quando meno me l’aspetto, l’altra sera trovo ad un concerto il buon Antonio “Grip Casino” al banchetto della sua etichetta, la Geograph Records. Dopo aver amabilmente chiacchierato del più e del meno mi sono ritrovato ad armeggiare con questa tape, l’ho comprata ed ora non ascolto altro da una decina di giorni a questa parte.
La tape in questione è l’esordio di Eva Won, già batterista con Bobsleigh Babyed ora alle prese con la sei corde a sciorinare melodie da camera da letto in bassa fedeltà. Le dodici tracce in questione scorrono via che è un piacere tra suggestioni dreamy, malinconiche regressioni ‘90s, pop eclettico minimale e sperimentale.
Per esempio See you in the Sun è come luce mattutina che filtra pigramente tra le tapparelle, mentre la voce di Eva emerge da un gomitolo di noise, si raddoppia e poi cade in picchiata. Water è un vero e proprio gioello dream pop che affoga in un mare di riverbero e che ha il fascino mellifluo di quella musica che ogni tanto ci arriva casualmente da altre stanze: sfocata ed inafferrabile. Mentre Caldo è bucolica poetica sghemba in italiano, invece When you Snore alza la pressione grazie ad una batteria in quattro quarti.
City Garden chiude il sipario con grazia folk, malinconia in slow motion e spleen domenicale.
“Amore sotto forma di canzoni marchiate da una voce fuori dal comune”: così in casa Geograph salutano orgogliosamente questo piccolo grande disco. Non capita spesso, ma è sempre emozionante poter assistere alla nascita di una stella.

It happens more and more often to get out of a record stores empty-handed. And with that feeling of being a bit like a shoplifter on reverse, hands in pocket, empty shopping bags, and the only desire to get away as soon as possible from that non-crime scene. I guess it's a bit like when you can't get it up. All that expectation, and nothing at the end of it.
But, when you least expect it, some night ago I meet in a gig our good friend Antonio “Grip Casino” standing at the banquet of his label, Geograph Records. After having chatted amiably, I found myself fiddling with this tape, I bought it and now I do not hear much else since ten days so far.
The tape is the debut of Eva Won, former drummer with Bobsleigh Baby, and now grappling with the six strings, rattling off melodies, from the bedroom of low fidelity. The twelve tracks in question are pure pleasure, blending suggestive dream pop, melancholic regressions '90s, experimental and minimal eclectic pop.
For example, See you in the Sun is like the morning light that filters lazily between the shutters, while Eva's voice emerges from a ball of noise, it doubles and then plummets. Water is a real dream pop jewel, drowning in a sea of reverb and which has the charm of that mellifluous kind of music that sometimes we get randomly from other rooms: fuzzy and elusive. While Caldo is skewed bucolic poetry in Italian, yet, in When you Snore the pressure rises up due to 4/4 drumming.
"Love in the form of songs marked by a voice out of the ordinary" is how the house Geograph proudly salutes this great little disc. It does not happen often, but it's always exciting to witness the birth of a star.
